According to the modern mythos, many generations ago the Pokémon Arceus blessed the first child with the ability to Soul Bond. As time went on, more and more people became able to perform this miraculous ability until it became commonplace in the majority of the population. Soul Bonding is the process where a trainer and their Pokémon are so attuned to one another that they are able to sync up their very souls. By doing so, they are able to temporarily take on some of the traits of their Pokémon—both their physical attributes and their skills. A trainer can perform some of the incredible feats that their Poké-partner can, from Babydoll Eyes to Surf! Our story begins after a terrible battle between the former regional Champion—Toshinori Yagi—and the soul snatching All For One, forcing the champion to step down and sending All For One and his signature partner, Yveltal, to the Crypts.
